Stuff that matters

As good as your intentions may well be, most people find themselves late for work every now and then, with hectic school runs and traffic jams often getting in the way of even the most well-thought-out morning routines.

Most of the time, the occasional late start isn’t really too much of a big deal, especially if you’re only arriving one minute or so after your shift time.

However, as previously reported by the Daily Star, one boss appears to take such minor tardiness very seriously indeed, punishing employees if they’re so much as one minute late to the office.

The extreme rule was shared by a former staff member, who took a snapshot of a poster outlining the harsh policy.

Sharing the pic to Reddit, the unnamed former employee, who writes under the username u/MinionsAndWineMum, blasted the workplace as “the worst place I ever worked”, adding that pay was ” minimum wage, of course.”

The sign informs staff about a “new office rule” at the unspecified workplace, and reads: “For every minute you are late for work, you will be required to work for 10 minutes after 6 pm.

“For example, if you arrive at 10:02, you will have to stay an extra 20 minutes until 6:20 pm.”

People have been left aghast over the sign, with one person replying: “Boy I hope they like paying overtime. Or paying people to literally just stand around for an extra 20 minutes because they know this rule is b. How the f** can people think this is a good idea?”

Another said: “Some people just love exerting whatever little power they have. If whoever wrote this note was able to let go of their ego for five minutes, they would realize how hilariously pathetic, petty, and sad this is.

“Unfortunately for whoever works there, that is not the case.”

A third person joked: “If you show up at 9:58 do you get to leave at 5:40?”
